I went for it...

Board and batten tutorials are all over the place...So I'm not gonna give you a tutorial today. I used Young House Love's general guide and video tutorials and used 1X2s instead of lattice. I will provide you with a whammo blammo before and after-ish. I finally drug myself out of the post baby delivery whatever that funk was...I never understood why something so amazing and wonderful could also make you feel like hell. That's a whole other post. The kids hall bath was in desperate need of some updates. The continuous use of the towel bar as a monkey bar had rendered it useless. My family is not physically capable of hangin' up their towels on a bar. The purple paint was gross and I was tired of seeing the Hannah Montanta shower curtain. So I started with this. Please don't laugh.

I worked furiously over the long weekend to get this done. I was home with the kids, hubby was at work, and I worked with as many materials as I had at home to finish this project before I went back to work on Tuesday. Total cost was just under $60. It could have been less but I purchased pre-primed. I had the primer and paint from previous (door painting) projects. I also already had a nail gun and caulk gun. If I tackle something like this again I will go get a putty knife and some white wood filler. I had to fill the holes twice because I didn't get enough in there initially and that stuff shrinks! Then had to prime over the spots because my filler was tan. Here is the after-ish.
I have ordered the whale shower curtain from Urban Outfitters and I am waiting on that to pick the paint color and hang the little cabinet back up on the wall. I'm hoping someday I can train my teenager to put all her stuff in there, a girl can dream right? stay tuned for a final reveal soon!

A Little Color Never Hurt Anyone

How on earth am I supposed to choose colors for the exterior of my house? There are like a million out there! Wait there are like a million of each shade out there! What if I hate it! What if my neighbors hate it? What if our hosue becomes THAT house? You know which house I'm talking about...every neighborhood has one! This is pretty much how I feel when I even think about the whole idea of painting the exterior of our home.

We had some pretty damaged parts of our home's exterior trim that we've finally had repaired. The follow up to that is to have it painted. Knowing this day was coming you would have thought I would be totally prepared with paint colors and ideas. But working full time and a new baby in the house...sleep is my number one priority. Which remindes me... I'm tired.

Here's a shot of the house pretty much as it is now with Mr. Jake making a cameo.

I have always always always wanted a blue door. Ever since I saw Knotting Hill. So when we bought our house it had black shutters and a faded stained door I painted it blue. My husband who often humors me actually didn't mind the blue. But I then had to pain the shutters and then complained that the rest of the house needed to be painted. I had this grand vision of grey tones and my bright blue door. This was all before I knew anything about photoshop and all these handy programs were available online that allowed you to digitally paint your home before you ever set foot in a hardware store. But I've been tweaking some images of our home and the red brick just isn't flowing with my grand vision. The budget is not there to paint the brick, which I'm not sure I would do anyway and it's definetly not there to cover it with stone (my dream). So now I'm kind of pouting revisiting some othe rcolor schemes. I'll try and post some color schemes in the next few days. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Under Construction

There has been a whole heck of a lot of activity at the House of P in in last year or so. New baby, new jobs, new appliances, new projects. Now that the sleep deprivation is getting better I'll have a little time to revamp and post a few of the things that have been going on around here. Stay tuned and check back with us!

what a long journey

This time last year I was 2 weeks pregnant and didn't know it. It's crazy to think about how much things have changes from a year ago...

Time passes so quickly yet it seems like the days drag on and on forever.

Madison is now 10 and Jacob is 3 1/2 months old...at this age the 1/2 is crucial. I'm 27 and Scott is 37.

A year ago, Madison wasn't a pre-teen, Jacob was small enough we needed a microscope to see him. A year ago, I was closer to 25 than to 30 and a year ago Scott was 85 pounds heavier.

This last year has changed us, not just the addition of a new family member or that now I am biologically a mother...it's truly changed us...for the better.

June of 2009 I found out I was pregnant. We were also contacted by Madison's estranged mother, Tina. Scott was really reluctant to even talk to her, and even those I was more scared for myself and my relationship with Madison, I urged him to do it...not matter the cost to me...because it's what was best for Madison that we should be thinking of.

I'm gonna wrap it up for now but I think I'm gonna work on my birth story and getting that down in type for future generations..haha

It's me again....

Ok so I've been kinda MIA for quite a while...things have just been non-stop. I've barely been able to keep up with the laundry (ha) let alone do anything for "fun" so my crafting wish list looks pretty much the same...haven't gotten to the point of being able to cross anything off.

I've really been struggling the last few months...with lots of things..life in general I guess you could say. It's alot of dark thoughts and nasty emotion that I just don't think I could get undercontrol if I were to let them loose at this particular moment...so I just won't go there.

I NEED to get back to spilling my brain on to my computer screen ...because I fear for what might happen if I don't.

Madison is growing up and has really been hassle free for the most part aside from her stubborness when it comes to her required reading. If I could find a way to get along with Cindy, my MIL, and I wasn't the one making all the compromises, things would be so much better...but that's an entirely different entry for another day.

For now I'm just thankful for the sunshine and the fact that our pool is no longer leaking...and warm weather is on its way! = )
